Running Music -- Tom Jones -- It's Not Unusual

This is one of the songs on my iPod Shuffle that I listen to while running. I remember when I was a kid, my Mom was a fan of Tom (or was it Engelbert Humperdinck ?). Tom sure has the moves if you can overlook the annoying finger snapping. Anyway, it is a great song to listen to when running, as is "What's New Pussycat?"

Out of curiousity, do you run to these songs beat-for-beat? Are you conscious of the rhythm? Or do you just like the music in the background?

I'm really big on running to the rhythm--syncing my stride to the music--and these songs are a genius find. They're really fast; they're both in the 180-185 BPM range, which is the running cadence of elite-level marathoners. Since I make music for running, I might have to "borrow" a bit from the music style ;)

My mom was big on Engelbert Humperdinck. Whatever you want to say about his music, that's one hell of a name to carry around.

I don't necessary pick songs for the BPM, but I do find that I fall into the rhythm of some songs easily. It is almost like playing percussion with your feet. Thankfully it is a short song, because I am far from an elite-level marathoner.

That is a funny song! Not sure if I would like this one to go running with. I like the running music on MPRunning.com. The beats go with your running steps which is really cool.

I'm no elite either--the falling-into-the-rhythm-of-the-songs thing is what keeps me alive on some runs :)

But I'm also one of those musician/dork types that can't help but tap out the rhythms of songs sometimes when I drive. Music and running is a natural marriage for me.

MP3running.com is an interesting resource. Another one is Jogtunes.com. And, of course, if I was to shamelessly plug my own wares, so is HellaSound.com :)

Thanks for answering! I love the eclecticism of your blog!
