President Obama Top 10 Accomplishments

I was having a discussion with someone who was unhappy with President Obama's performance as president.  I thought I should have have some ammunition to defend the prez, considering I think he is about a million times better than the alternative--by whom I mean any of the current crowd running for the Republican nomination.  I can't say that I'm 100 percent happy with the what President Obama has done, but he has done some good things.  It should be noted that he does have accomplishments.  He also has one other thing his opponents do not have--a brain.

I got this info from Buzz Feed blog and an article by Gavon Laesigg from several months ago.  You can read the full list of 20 accomplishments here.  More information about Obama's accomplishments can be found here from Jack and Jill Politics blog.  Also, if you want to get involved in the re-election campaign, go here.

1. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, makes it illegal for employers to pay unequal wages to men and women who perform equal work.
2. Saved the American auto industry and its hundreds of thousands of jobs from disappearing by preventing Chrysler and GM from going bankrupt.
3. Overturned Bush Administration restrictions on Federal funding for stem cell research.
4. The Matthew Shepard Act, expands hate crime definitions to include gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability.
5. The Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act, allows gay soldiers to serve openly in the United States military.
6. The Credit Card Bill of Rights, outlaws hidden fees and deceptive lending practices from credit card companies.
7. Student loan reform, significantly expands access to affordable government loans and Pell Grants for college.
8. The Affordable Care Act (Obama Care as Fox News would say) establishes universal health care, allowing, among other things, people with pre-existing health problems access to health insurance.  And the Children's Health Insurance Reauthorization Act, provides health care to 11 million children who live in poverty.
9. New START Treaty, will reduce by half the nuclear missile stockpiles of Russia and the United States.
10. Oh yeah... Got Osama bin Laden.

Thanks for sharing this, Mark! I agree with you about Obama 100%. He's not been a perfect President, but he is a billion times better than scary Perry, "I'll say anything to win" Romney, and that evil witch from Minnesota.

1. It's always been illegal to pay men more than women for the same job. It's call discrimination.
2. Turning the auto industry over to the Union is "saving it?" How sad.
3. Oh, that's right; what's another dead baby?
4. Hate crime? Oh, I remember. That's that law that tells someone that their life doesn't mean as much as another person's does when it comes to crime. Oh, yeah. A lot of common sense in that.
5. Well, if I were in the military, that would be the first thing I'd want to know about, who you sleep with.
6. Nothing has changed. If you don't believe me, get a credit card and default on it.
7. Well, no, I didn't know about that. And neither do any of the college students I talked to.
8. I would have already established universal health care, too, if you would give me the money to pay for it. Oh, that's right. It ain't your money, so you don't care.
9. When?
10. And here I am, thinking that information obtained from Guatanamo (that he tried to close down) was what caused us to "get" Osama bin Laden.
Wow! I wish I was this smart.

I was going to delete the above comment, but the guy is so persuasive with his arguments, I may become a Republican. So much for no child left behind.

I think you forgot about the adding $2 trillion to the national debt. That's a good one...

Anonymous said...

How much debt did we add with Bush again???

Anonymous said...

I believe when Clinton left us debt was 5.73T and when Bush left it was 10.63T. You can do the math Mr. Dec. 13th. Or can you?

Anonymous said...

Here's a list for you....Reagan increased the debt by 189%. Bush #1 by 55%. Clinton 37%. Bush #2 115%. Obama 16%.

A moron calling somebody a moron, should himself get informed. Listen idiot, the vast majority of "embryonic" stem cells used in research are derived when the "embryo" is only a few days old, meaning that the embryo is just a mass of cells with no heart, no brain, no nervous system. At this stage cells are called blastolcyst. When the blastocyst loses its plasticity, half of the stem cells begin to develop into the placenta while the other half develop into the heart, nervous system, and other organs losing or severely limiting their viability to be used in stem cell research.

The two primary sources of blastocst are those that are aborted, and those that were never implanted from in vitro fertilization. As an organism of only a few cells and with no brain, the blastocyst has no ability to reason, understand, or give informed consent. Since the blastocysts are nothing more than a group of cells the only person or persons to give consent for use in medical research would be the owners of the blastocyst. Get this, the owners of the blastocyst solely make the decision to destroy the blastocysts never implanted or donate them to scientific research and the potential mother and father who decided to abort! In both cases the blastocyst is unwanted by the owners, has no other use, and would otherwise be destroyed.

So, the question becomes, would it be better to destroy blastocysts or use blastocysts to make revolutionary medical advances, improve quality of life, ease suffering, and potentially save millions of lives?

Objections to stem cell research are emotionally charged, but the basis for objections are not rooted in fact or reasoning that justifies the destruction of blastocyst when it can be used to save lives, improve the human condition, and potentially eliminate deaths caused by certain diseases.

Scientists are excited about the potential for embryonic stem cells to be used as a way to transport medicine, reprogram cells within the human body, treat cancer, repair birth defects, repair spinal cord injuries, replace diseased or damaged organs, grow skin for burn victims, and treat or cure diseases such as Muscular Dystrophy, lymphoma, leukemia, and diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Heart Disease, Glaucoma, Parkinson, Alzheimer, and even Cancer.

The important thing to remember is this: Blastocyst stem cells provide a superior quality product for research, than do stem cells derived form adult humans. Besides what if an embryo was to die and they used tissue from it, do you think it's any different from cadavers the medical schools and teaching hospitals use for scientific advancements in medicine.

You know what "Troll" you remind me of the people who insisted on calling other stupid because they thought the world was round instead of flat! People from other countries are watching as you try to undermine President Barack Obama, a brilliant statesman, scholar, political strategist! A small Tea Party group in congress creating stumbling blocks on effective legislation proposed by the President for no other reason that to see him fail..All the lies, deceit, rumors, disgusting propaganda have only strengthened his resolve and he stands head and shoulders above you all.

You and the others like you had best stay anonymous. It's easy to give a sum total without knowing how you got there.

For example, Bush and Cheney using trickery to hide the real budgetary deficits, like not including the cost of two wars in their budgets, which President Obama corrected and included in his more realistic budget.

I will leave this one example as proof enough for you to see the error of your shallow ways. Stop using PARTY politics laced with lies and deceit to manipulate public opinion, try using people politics for the good of all Americans.

It is a sad commentary on having a polite and academic debate because you devils are always aggressive discourteous, rambling on and on full of hate and venom laced hypocrisy!

There are a few things Obama has accomplished but few of them are good ideas. I believe the stem cell base has been covered and proven to be good research that Obama ended. However I would like to discuss another issue. Saving GM from bankruptcy.

GM as everyone should know at this point is a unionized company that was created to protect the employees from having a low income or binifets that were unfair to the employees. When the union was first established their entintiona were sound. The employees became happy with their new wages and the business thrived. Over time the union became politacly involved and lost sight of their eltomate goal of not just protecting the employees but using it as a business to make more money. There is Mitch debate in this I know but the proof lies I. The "bail out". Look at a company such as Toyota. There is no union involved in the company and people that work there are happy with their job. This is because Toyota takes care of their employees with out the need of a union babysitting the employees.
Once the union became a sores of money they requires GM to rais wages again and again untill the couldn't afford it any more and they resorted to claiming bankruptcy. The Obama decided to step in to save the jobs" when in truth all he saved was the union and their leverage over GM.

Two things could happen at that point
#1. They close their doors and everyone loses their job. This sounds bad at the surface right? Yes but... The auto demand will not change. Other car companies will have to produce and sell more cars which creates more jobs with ford and Toyota. Their for the jobs were not lost but just moved to better companies that can either has no union or a union that is more reasonable with their demands.
#2. They close their doors and the smart owners of GM realize they are now free from the bondage of the union and open the doors back up offering jobs right back it the employees. Once again jobs were not lost.
Other factors will of corse come into play but thousands of jobs don't just disappear.

The truth is Obama did bail them out and at this point we will have to just deal with it but here are some of the repercussions. The first question is where did Obama get the money to do this bail out? The answer is he had to borrow it from other countries. Next question is how do we pay back these countries? Obamas answer to that is raise taxes. Or more along the lines of raise taxes to the rich "they can afford it". My question to you is did rich people who worked hard for their money do it by being stupid? No!! Of corse not.
If the taxes are sauced on the rich they won't suddenly become stupid they will create a new budget to compensate for the new higher costs. In other words they will cut spending.
Where can or will they cut the spending? The first thought is save money on supplies by finding cheaper products, but as a business owner my largest expense is wages. There for I personally would cut hours or even lay people off which creates unemployment. Which isn't that the problem in the first place?
The last thing abusiness owner can do to pay for these higher taxes is to raise the price of their own product. In turn the American people including the GM employees will have to pay more which in turn leads to the need for a larger wage. Which then leads to the company not being able to afford it which then leads to needing another bail out.

The moral of the story is the government needs to create a logical budget, create a smaller government, and cut spending so we can afford to bay back our debts and let our country fork itself out of this hole.

Honestly name calling does nothing. It is a matter of opinion on when life begins. I am not saying either side is right but discuss without those kind of overtones shows intelligence. To use them shows the lack of. One side can side with science the other the church. What it comes down to is honestly it is not up to the federal gov. to rule on such things or make laws against or for them. The states may and then as an individual you have the right to live in whatever one you want.

I think that we should not brag about half the things on that list. Most are still not funded or they have so much mud around them do you really want to brag? Honestly the tax payers could have paid every gm and chrysler a million buck and it would have cost the tax payers less. Hell maybe some of them would have started up buisnesses and hired more employees than they currently have. Maybe someone would have built a better company from the ashes. No bank or buisness is to big to fail it underminds the basis of our republic.

The debt increased under the leadership of the previous four presidents alongside a growing economy, MUCH lower unemploymrnt and over a period of TWO terms. The debt Obama is forcing us to pay will long be surpass the previous numbers and have far more negative results. Read more than the main stream media, which has done everything short of portraying Obame-ya a living GOD. But it all changes in November.....and all the desperation and hate from the liberals can't stop it.

A blastocyst is still the beginning of a human life. It's not a fly, monkey or fish, you can try as hard as you want, science guy, but you can't marginalize that. I believe in "Life", Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As for the accomplishments, they are a matter of perspective. In addition, both the state and the feds are still “government”.

If every taxpayer paid GM a million bucks it would have cost less? Currently the cost of the auto bailout is estimated to be $25 billion. See the link below:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/15/auto-bailout-price-tag-rises-to-25-billion-how-high-will-it-go/

About 156 million people file taxes in the US. That makes the cost of the bailout, per taxpayer, about $160.... slightly less than $1,000,000 per taxpayer.

I think raising the debt 300% speaks for itself.

I don't want to justify Obama personally but as a president what he has done is outstanding. After defeating Mitt Romney by a huge margin, his contribution towars us economy is unforgettable. National Debt has increased more under Obama than under Bush. Also Obama's strong step against terrorism ha made him the most perfect president of USA.
